Tour of Atlanta - Report by Robert Watkins
Saturday Crit highlights
Four days and 7 races with no loss of skin or broken bikes. Day one was the TT of 1.24 miles which I got a 10th in the rain. That night a circuit race I waited too long going to the line and pulled out a 24th. Day 2 first circuit race the feel for the group was coming around. There were a couple of teams who were serious about trying to keep it together so attacking and chasing was the way it was going to be. I pulled out a 15th in the first race and 16th that night in the rain. Day 3 The first circuit race 10th and that night was the fastest so far and the group never got organized and it was a weird vibe but pulled out a 16th before the rain. Day four was a 65 mile RR with almost 4000 ft of climbing. I tried bridging across to the break away but the stomach problem I had been fighting since the weekend before at the GA state RR kicked in and the legs were tired. I was back in the pack and on the second time up the climb I could not respond and got gapped. Got over the top and myself and one more went on the chase and I dropped him and could not catch the group. Hooked up with one rider and set tempo to the line picking off several on the way. I should have been in the top 25.

Rock Hill Spring Race - Report by David Epstein
Saturday Crit highlights
The true star of the weekend was John Hayes with his 1st place finish in the Masters 35+ Crit race. After his victory lap he rolled up to the line in the Cat 4 race and finished 9th.We also had had Luke W, Rob D in the Masters 35+.They were right there in it with John until there was a wreck. Luke made it by and D-4 managed to avoid a spill but came to a complete stop with no opportunity to chase down the field. Kudos to Matt Baranoski for sticking in there on his first race(masters 35+) of the season. He showed the team colors well. David Lee started off with a bang in the Masters 35+ 1,2,3 and had the field moving at break neck speed. It was just pure David Lee tactics until the tubular tire on his rear wheel decided to come unglued in the fifth turn on the third lap. He went down but somehow managed a soft landing. The are no broken bones just road rash and a perfect imprint of somebody's 53 chainring in his lower back. I have to say it is a rather interesting look with his tatoo's and all. David E., Brian S. and Pete F. mixed it up in the masters 50+.The field was not as big as we hoped for but were pleased to see there were plenty of strong riders in it. There were numerous breaks on the back side into the wind but none of them stuck. By the end of the race there were 11 involved in a field finish. David E took 7th.
Sunday Road Race
The Brattonsville road race was a great venue. The race was well managed at all the turns and filled with soft rollers. The fields were 40-60.John H. went off in the Cat 4 and finished in the field. None of the breaks held. David E, Luke W and Matt B entered the masters 35+.The three stayed up in towards the front with Matt working some early, David at the 2/3rds mark and Luke the last 8 miles in. Luke tried some attacks but there were teams with 5&6 guys so nothing was going to stick. We had a field finish with David & Luke finishing somewhere between 19th & 23rd. Luke was literally beside me and slightly ahead by 3 or 4 inches at the finish and he officially showed up DNF. Go figure. We saw Brian S, Carl K, Pete F and Mike W. rolling up to the starting line in the Masters 50+. I am not sure how they did as I high tailed it back home.
- Dave Hall comes in 5th overall and 1st
SS at Santos
Santos 12 hour endurance MTB
I just got back from the 12 Hours of Santos. I'm tired and sore but here's a quick update. Good weather- 70s daytime, 30s at night. Went down with Adam and Joel, Justin met us there. Good course- I had to race my rigid single speed making it a good bit tougher. That course was hard on the SS, rode a few laps and decided to overgear it and hope I could still turn the cranks over on the last few laps. The race went well- ended up winning the Single speed class by 2 laps and placing 5th overall. Not too bad- can't wait to get my geared bike with a suspension fork! Held up pretty good and rode strong. The last 3 hrs were very rough- I was barely making it up over the climbs and the downhills were beating me to pieces. I kept it rolling though and had a good finish. Same exact course as last year and I got in 15 laps on the 9 mile course instead of last year's 14 laps. I was really feeling the effort after this one. Usually I finish feeling like I could keep riding- not this time. I think it was the rigid fork and the tall gear on the climbs. My arms, back, and Delts were all cramping w/ 3 to go due to yanking up on the bars for leverage so much. Anyways- another great Gone Riding event in the books. Everyone that came with me had a good day and a good trip. Next up- S.E. Regional #1 ( If my new bike shows up!) - Pivotal Fitness takes over as lead
sponsor
Team news
We're happy to announce that Pivotal Fitness has stepped up to be the lead sponsor for us in 2009. Pivotal has been a strong sponsor for us in the past and is now making our commitment even stronger in the years to come. - Low Country VW steps down
Team news
All things in life change. Low Country VW of Mount Pleasant, SC has decided to take a lesser role in in their sponsorship for us this year. LCVW has been our sponsors for seven years making it possible for us show off their vehicles, race and put on races for the country. There is a photo album in our photo gallery with pictures from previous years in the club. Please take a look and drop them a line of thanks when you have time. Without them we wouldn't have the LCVW race weekend for the past seven years.
